It was during the pre independence days, when even the Primary Education was not accessible to ordinary citizen, in the year 1943, the School was started for the benefit of the ordinary people of Karakonam and its surrounding places, as an English Middle School, by Sri E Paramu Pillai, who retired as the Diwan Peshkar from the service from the princely State of Travancore. It was started at the 'Saraswathi Bhavanam' at Karakonam. Later, in the year 1949, the school was upgraded to High School and started functioning from the present premises. The institution progressed under Sri P Raman Nair, an industrious person and son of the founder, who served the institution as Head Master for a long period, and through the untiring efforts of efficient dedicated teaching and non teaching staff. The Institution celebrated its 50th year (Golden Jubilee) in 1994 in a befitting manner from 24/01/1994 to 29/04/1994. The then Governor of Kerala Sri B Rachaiah unveiled the statue of the beloved Founder Sri E Paramu Pillai, in the school premises, on the opening day of the celebrations. The triumphant journey continues. The recent past saw many landmarks. Introduction of Computer Education, by the school management from year 2001 - 02. This was even before the Government has recognized the importance of computer education to children in the modern-day life and introduced in standard eight during 2002 - 03, to be enlarged progressively every year to cover all classes. Introduction of English Medium stream during 2002 - 03 in Standard V. One division is earmarked for English medium stream. This is in addition to the Malayalam medium already existing. The English Medium section will be advanced progressively every year till it covers the entire upper primary and high school wings. The school which started with a small group of students have grown over time to the present strength of over 1500 students, upper primary and high school wings put together. This is complemented with a team of well qualified, efficient, highly motivated and dedicated staff, teaching and non-teaching. The school continues to march towards progresses under the able guidance of the PPM Educational Society and with the active participation and co-operation from the Staff, Parents, Parent Teacher Association and Public at large. |
